If you’re undecided between Julian Cyr and Anthony Schiavi, a more-reasonable-than-many- Republicans Republican, compare them on the issue of the closure of Pilgrim. There is no more pressing issue at this time than the need to close the decrepit Pilgrim now, rather than risk two more years of increasing dysfunction. (Not to mention the risk that Entergy, despite its announcement of a 2019 closure date, could sell to another company which would find it profitable to run it further into the ground, as happened recently to another Entergy company in upstate New York.)
Cyr is knowledgeable about the details and committed to continuing the vital work of Rep. Peake and current Senator Wolf on prompt closure and responsible decommissioning.
Schiavi meanwhile, according to Diane Turco, prominent leader of the movement, seems comparatively clueless and tentative about Pilgrim. Governor Baker, who has failed to use his power in protecting the safety of citizens by getting Entergy and the NRC to act responsibly, would no doubt be all too pleased to have an exchange in the Senate of Wolf for Schiavi.
At a recent gathering of Baker and local Republican candidates at a Yarmouth restaurant, members of Cape Downwinders, interested in making some points about Pilgrim, were shooed off the restaurant’s property and onto the sidewalk by police. There was no interference from any of those inside, including Schiavi. Meanwhile, Cyr has made a point of meeting with members of DownCape DownWinders.
Pilgrim is one of the big issues and Cyr’s outspoken commitment to it is reason enough to vote for him.
